Billing & Accounting Specialist

Department: Accounting - Office
Location: West Des Moines, IA

Position Summary

The Billing & Accounting Specialist will be responsible for accurately processing billing documentation, handling claims, ensuring compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and assisting with accounting related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process Billing Documentation: Accurately process invoices, statements, and claims for senior living homes' medical services.
  • Claim Management: Handle claims submission, review denials, and coordinate appeals with insurance providers.
  • Compliance: Ensure all billing practices comply with Medicare and Medicaid regulations, as well as senior living facility requirements.
  • Reconciliation: Reconcile billing discrepancies, verify insurance eligibility, and resolve any issues related to billing.
  • Communication: Collaborate with healthcare providers and senior living home staff to obtain necessary billing information and resolve billing inquiries.
  • Reporting: Generate and maintain billing reports, tracking outstanding payments, and providing regular updates to management.
  • Assist with additional accounting duties across all businesses:
    • Reconcile bank accounts on a weekly and monthly basis.
    • Creates upload, and post journal entries as transactional information for various business units into the accounting system.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, specifically within the senior living or healthcare industry preferred and 2 years general accounting experience required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office, with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing guidelines and regulations.
  • Proficient with software systems including Microsoft Office Suite, Word, and Excel.
  • Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, and collections.

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification.
  • Point Click Care and Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate experience.
