Accountant

Department: Accounting - Office
Location: West Des Moines, IA

Position Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and analysis. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting:

  • Prepares monthly financial statements in an accurate and timely manner:
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts, including documenting and resolving reconciling items.
  • Reviews income and expense accounts for proper classification and makes correcting entries.
  • Prepares and posts journal and job cost entries.
  • Prepares financial statements including balance sheet, income statement and supplemental schedules.
  • Submits financial package for review and approval.
  • Prepares AIA’s and billings for construction projects for Senior Accountant review.
  • Works with Accounts Payable, Business Units and Senior Accountant to resolve escalated AR and AP questions.
  • Prepares draws for construction projects and submits to various lenders upon review by Senior Accountant.
  • Prepares work papers, schedules, and documentation for investors, lenders, regulators, auditors, and tax preparers as needed.
  • Assists with maintenance of general ledger base account descriptions and detailed explanations of how each account is utilized.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of processes and procedures.

Entity Budgeting:

  • In partnership with the Business unit team members and Sr. Accountant to assist with budget creation.
  • Calculates certain budget amounts and provides to budget preparer.

Relationship Management & Systems

  • Actively cooperates with all internal service delivery partners to provide optimal service to customers.
  • Assists Senior Accountant on following up with internal customers on a regular basis to ensure their business needs and expectations are understood and are being met.
  • Serves as backup to other accounting positions as assigned.
  • Works with Senior Accountant, business unit, software vendors and other Hubbell teams to automate manual processes and implement identified project improvements along with trouble shooting system issues.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Two years’ minimum accounting experience required.
  • Real estate accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with software systems including Microsoft Word and Excel required. Procore, Sage 300 (Timberline), and/or Sage FAS a plus.

Success Factors

  • Real estate accounting experience preferred.
  • Sound analytical thinking skills, interpersonal skills, and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and multiple demands on a limited timeline.
  • Good interpersonal skills in negotiation, conflict management, and relationship building with service delivery partners including Project Managers, Project Coordinator and other team members.
  • Able to take project specifications and implement details to achieve desired results while knowing when to clarify details and direction with Manager.
