Associate Attorney

Department: Legal - Office
Location: West Des Moines, IA

Position Summary

The Associate Attorney is responsible for providing legal support and counsel to internal clients in real estate, construction, management, and general corporate matters, conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing documents, and participating in client meetings and negotiations. A foundation and knowledge in real estate, construction, corporate, and contract law are critical to this role. This role offers an opportunity for professional growth and development within a dynamic and collaborative environment. This position will collaborate closely with managers and team members of various business units within Hubbell Realty Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Independently provide objective, thorough, timely and well-researched legal advice and counsel to internal clients, understand and provide counsel on the strategy, business objectives and goals of the Company, provide options for key decision makers to analyze the legal risk and take action.
  2. Independently provide legal advice and counsel on real estate matters, construction matters, and corporate matters.
  3. Draft and review purchase and sale agreements, platting and entitlement documents, construction documents, leases, estoppels, affidavits, organizational documents, declarations, and other documents for the business without the need for supervision or oversight.
  4. Independently reviews contracts and draft documents and policies as required by departments of the company.
  5. Independently researches various legal issues and gathers other data, information, and materials for the business.
  6. Independently lead initiatives and collaborate with other attorneys and business partners to implement changes, forms, strategies, and other procedures to mitigate risks, proactively change, or address regulatory outcomes.
  7. Acts as a backup to various tasks performed by other attorneys for the Company.
  8. Develop strong relationships and mutual trust with internal clients that foster proactive communication and meet the goals of the business.
  9. Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements

  • License to practice law in Iowa required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant experience required.
  • Experience in real estate industry required.
  • Experience in law firm and/or in-house environments preferred.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating contracts and other legal documents preferred.

Travel

  • Occasional travel between office locations required.
